The Station at Hesk
This is how it looks. It is not a map. The fog at the shore moves the whole time you are there.
The station is set on the shore of the standing fog below the counting house, where the count is taken. Up is drawn along the plumb line, which does not agree with the figure here. The level is drawn square to it, and the ground leans against it.
The counting house is poured square to its floor. The floor stands 26 degrees from the plumb. The mark on its wall is set to the plumb and agrees with nothing it is cut in.
Dessum and tollun are drawn where they stand over the station now. The clock this page keeps is the Office’s arithmetic. The count is Hesk’s, and the two are not entered as the same thing.
The line is drawn for the distance it is read from. Closer in, the Office draws more of the ground, and nothing it drew from farther out is taken away.
No tower stands in sight of the station.
