for the one going
Everyone goes. Somebody walks you out.
The night before is spent at Senn. Whoever is at the table with you is who walks you out. Nobody is sent; they come. One of them has been and come back, and sits with you, and says nothing of it. It is not a thing that can be said, and nothing else is done to make you ready.
In the morning the way runs west to the Shelf. It is the one way that is walked. It is worn wider than any other, and nobody built it.
At the marker they stop. Nobody says anything at the marker. You go on by yourself, and you do not look back, and they stand there a while yet.
The head is the only thing standing on the Shelf, and it goes down. Below it are the papers, the count, a room to wait in with a window on mell, and a door. At the count you are handed what you will carry, and nothing on it is written. You may go down now, if you would rather know it before the morning.
You will not be asked what you expect to come back with. It is not a thing anyone asks.
Those who come back come in at Hesk. There is food at the foot of the stair, and you sit down to eat it.
