The Vennet Shelf

The Vennet Shelf in grey watercolour: a flat stone plateau running to a cliff edge on the right, a single small standing marker out on the flat, fog rising from below the edge and a pale sun behind it.

THE VENNET SHELF

grey, and always has been

Nothing to do, and that is the reason to come.

The ground is flat to the edge and then it is not ground. Below the edge is mell, fog arriving from underneath, which is the ordinary direction. The far side of it has not been reported.

One marker stands out on the flat. It records nothing. It is how a person knows they have come far enough out, and it is the only thing standing on the Shelf.

This is the one plate on the sheet where the Bureau’s colour gives out. The grey is not a fault of the paper.

FrameA rectangle left open on one side. The Shelf ends in fog, so the frame fails where the ground does. ViewpointDrawn from within, as empty areas are. There is nowhere to stand that is not the Shelf.
