Mabbet

Mabbet: a ring of small joined rooms in watercolour on open dry upland, mended in pale green, enclosing a round bare sitting ground; a worn way comes in through a gap in the ring, crosses the bare ground and leaves through the far side toward hills; a few single dwellings of mixed forms stand outside the ring.
Cf. FilmThe ground the plate is drawn from.
MABBET

the first halt and the last

A ring of rooms round bare ground, and the way across the middle.

Mabbet is a ring of rooms with nothing inside the ring. The ground in the middle is kept bare, and sitting has worn it smooth.

The way comes in through one gap and leaves by the other. Going out it is your first halt, coming home your last, and you will sit here both times.

The rooms are kept by whoever is sitting in them. The mends are pale green.

FrameA circle with the way drawn straight through it. Mabbet is built round the way, not beside it. ViewpointDrawn from above, as inhabited areas are.

Office annotationMabbet is held on two ways, the way out and the way home. Every correspondent from the far side who has come home has sat at Mabbet twice.
