Quellin

Quellin: a long green island rising out of a level white fog sea in watercolour, evening light warm in the sky; a tight cluster of poured dwellings of mixed forms stands close together on the top of the rise around one worn patch, and a worn track runs down from them toward the fog; a low far shore lies on the horizon.
Cf. FilmThe ground the plate is drawn from.
QUELLIN

reached in the evening

Close houses on an island, reached across the fog.

You reach Quellin across the fog in the evening, and you leave before the count. Nobody stays the day who does not live here.

The houses stand close on the top of the rise, close enough that one worn patch serves them all.

The landing faces Kellid. The mends are pearl, and in the evening light they are the colour of the fog.

There is room on the rise for one patch of hollows, and it serves them all, the way the worn patch does.

FrameA small closed oval. The island is the frame, and nothing at Quellin goes past it. ViewpointDrawn from above, as inhabited areas are.
