Dunmorrenveskallun

Dunmorrenveskallun: a long city of poured dwellings in watercolour, row behind row along the curve of a level white fog sea; four quarters tinted slate, bone, copper and green, each walled block meeting the next at a mended join; slender towers stand back among the rows, and many worn tracks fan in from the dry land in front.

DUNMORRENVESKALLUN

four shores, and one town

Four towns stood round one fog until they met. Every way on this side comes here.

You will hear four names inside the one. Dunn, Morren, Vesk and Allun each kept its own shore, and the mends still tell you which one you are standing on: slate, bone, copper, green.

Where two quarters met they were joined, and the joins are mended in both colours. Walk the shore row all the way round and you cross all four, and come back to the colour you started on.

The towers stand a row back from the fog. Their keepers have the tops. The foot of each is everyone’s.

The hollows are on the inner face of the ring, toward the fog, and the lips carry all four colours, because the ones who keep them came from all four shores.

FrameFour arcs on one line. Each old shore keeps its own, and the frame is drawn joined where the town is mended. ViewpointDrawn from above, as inhabited areas are.
